Prevent split ends

Prevent split ends

Top tips to prevent split ends:

  1. Use a mild shampoo when washing - one NOT containing sulfates. This will reduce the drying effects of these shampoos.

  2. Regularly use a conditioner that includes either argan oil or coconut oil. These help increase hair hydration, reducing porosity buildup at the ends of your hair

  3. Apply a hair mask once or twice a week - ideally, one containing coconut oil (leave on for at least 5 minutes before rinsing off.

  4. Trim your hair regularly. A hair trim help remove the end of your hair, which builds up porosity the quickest.

  5. Avoid using metal brushes on your hair. These harsh brushes rip and damage your cuticle and eventually scrape your cuticle away entirely, exposing your hair’s cortex. This can significantly add to split end formation.

  6. Use oil in your hair a minimum of once a week. Hair oils serve many functions, but most help to promote healthy hair. Coconut oil is a good allrounder for different hair types and conditions. Use these neat if you are not using a hair mask.

  7. Get your hair tested using a HairKnowHow analysis. This way, you can find out exactly how healthy your hair is, including your hair type, so you can get the right products and expert grooming advice.

These are two sulfate-free shampoos we have used ourselves and would recommend to everyone looking to experiment with sulfate-free shampoos. They both contain good hair oils, either coconut or argan oil, making them a very healthy and welcome addition to your hair regime. All OGX branded shampoos also have a slightly thicker luxury silky feel making them easier to apply and, in our opinion, a beautiful, somewhat stronger coconutty floral scent. Definitely worth a go! Let us know how you get on!

Two great conditioners we regularly use ourselves will help reduce split-end formation and increase hair health. Head & Shoulders spent decades honing their formulations and make excellent conditioners. They’ve got the right combination of oils and other ingredients that boost hair health, leaving it feeling soft and more manageable. They also, in our opinion, make your hair smell great. Definitely worth a try.

We use these excellent hair masks ourselves. They are fantastic and give your hair a nutrient boost -exactly what it needs. We use the coconut mask in particular, which smells great and boosts hair health due to that all-important coconut oil. Let us know how you get on!

We at HairKnowHow have used both the coconut and argan oils ourselves for over a year, and they work very well, either on their own (by applying a couple of drops into a spray bottle with some water and then evenly spraying onto your hair) or when adding them to your favourite conditioner.

Two great detangling brushes for those with frizzy tangly, knotted hair with split ends. We have a lot of experience with these brushes. They will serve you well whether you use them for detangling or as part of your everyday styling regime, and we highly recommend them to you. Suitable for all hair types.
