Why do I need t trim my hair regularly

Getting your hair trimmed regularly is essential for keeping your hair healthy.

When a hair fibre is cut or wounded, it exposes part of the fibre's interior called the cortex. The cortex provides all of the strength and structural properties of the hair fibre, and it is susceptible to the environment and quickly degrades. Cut and wounded hair ends dry out, crack and split much more rapidly.

Cut hair fibre cortex showing drying and cracking in comparison to cut tree trunk high porosity

Comparison of dry cut ends of hair with felled tree trunk. Cracks in the cortex and trunk and indicated. Cracking is occuring due to drying and shrinking of both structures.

This drying and cracking at the end can extend (or propagate) up the fibre and contribute to frizz and broken ends.

This damaged hair at the ends of our fibres needs to be regularly removed.
